We thought it was going to rain on Easter but it ended up being a truly glorious day (much like it was 2,000 years ago). Our day started out with a soccer game for Brady. I have never been clear why there is soccer on Easter morning but somehow there is every year and we hate missing a week. They played on a smaller field this time and Brady didn't have quite as many goals as usual (his forte is running fast so the smaller field reduces the opportunity to run).
But, his week was made when he discovered that he had won an award for having the fastest time in the Fun Run (from a few weeks ago) for a community participant (meaning, kids that don't go to FLEC). He was so excited about it that we didn't have the heart to tell him that there were only TWO kids including himself that were eligible. All the other kids in it went to FLEC! Why burst his bubble? He asked me every day when he could pick it up. I kept waiting for the lady to get back in touch with me which she finally did. We picked it up this morning and as you can tell, he's quite proud.

We came home to change after soccer and then went to pick up Aunt Wanda to bring her with us to Ron and Elaine's for our first set of Easter festivities. Elaine made a wonderful meal as usual and the kids enjoyed the calmness of doing an egg hunt without a ton of other kids which would come later in the day. We hid a "golden" egg which had $20 in it and Calleigh found it this year (Brady did last year) but she promptly gave it to Colby.

Another egg had $5 but Colby seemed more interested in the candy. |

Ron and Elaine put up a piñata. They were trying to take care of Easter and Cinco de Mayo in one sitting. |

It was really just a beautiful day to sit in the backyard. |
After a short respite at home, it was on to event number two which is the annual Easter gathering at the Hilliards.

Yes, those are my children first in line for food. Lucky for me, Colby still needs help getting his! |

With Easter falling on April Fool's Day, you knew there was going to be an opportunity for some jokes. Jennifer, of course, does all the desserts and she sneakily made some cake pops with a Brussels sprouts center. My thought it is that Calleigh would be one of the first to take one. But instead, it was none other than Brady, aka, the boy who eats no veggies. It was so incredibly awesome and I got it all on video. He did take a few small bites of it before he realized what it was and his face was just priceless. Colby had one too at the same time as Brady and it took him even longer to realize what was going on.

So pretty! |

The boys were waiting for Jennifer to finish pictures so they could "race" in and be first. You can see Colby's stance...he's all ready to go! |

The moment he realizes he's eating a vegetable! |
After a good laugh (I think a few other unsuspecting teens took some too), it was on to the hunt. There are two golden eggs hidden at the event and my kids always hope they'll be the ones to find them. This year it was Kohlden and Macey. They are making progress though since it's kids their own age finding them rather than the teenagers!

The Hilliards have a couple of goats...which were trying to eat the eggs. |

Since it was April Fool's, out came Santa instead of the Easter bunny. |

The girls decorating some cookies. |
We laid pretty low this week. We have had a couple of guys here at the house all week working on our master bedroom ceiling. The ceiling is pretty plain so we are adding some boards to it to make it more interesting. I'll post a picture when it's done. The only downside is that the carpenter, Bill, likes to start at 8:00 am so I've had to make sure I'm out of bed by about 7:45 every morning. Ugh!! He thought it would only take four days but he will be on day seven on Monday to finish. It's okay though. He's a nice guy and we were going to have him do a bunch of other stuff for us too.
One of the reasons to leave the house this week was for soccer for the girls. They didn't have it last week as the school was doing outdoor school so the girls were anxious to get back to it this week. It was not short on excitement. As I've stated many times, I am not a fan of soccer but it is really fun to watch your kids play. Calleigh's team, Team Yellow, were 4-1 coming into a big game on Tuesday against Team Orange who were 5-0. Team Orange is coached by Karis Zbaraschuk and has Blake, Kaleb, and Zachary on it. They beat Calleigh's team 1-0 the first time they played. I think I was more excited than she was for the rematch! Yellow got off to a quick 1-0 lead but then Orange went ahead 2-1 on two goals in the first few minutes of the second half. With about five minutes left, Christian (the best kid on Yellow), tied it up. Would it remain a tie?? I was on the edge of my seat. Then with about thirty seconds left, Adrain on Team Yellow, kicked it in from the sidelines (about halfway between midfield and the goal) and decided to kick it towards the goal even though there was no one over there except the goalie. He kicked it really, really far up in the air and I thought, "That is going to be trouble when it lands because it's going to bounce very high even though it isn't a hard kick." Sure enough, the goalie didn't know what to do. It hit in front of her and then bounced really high over her head and into the goal. Elaine and I were going crazy!!! It was so exciting! For that day, the teams were now tied with 5-1 records. Orange played again Thursday and won so now they're 6-1 with only one game left to play in the "regular" season. Calleigh has two games left, Monday and Tuesday. Should be fun!
Meanwhile, Aubree's team started off 0-2 but have made a remarkable comeback and are now 4-2 on the season. Aubree hasn't gotten to play quite as much as Calleigh because they have about six or seven subs on her team but she still enjoys it a lot.

Go Team Red! The boy to the right of Aubree is Josiah, the coach's son. He's the best one on the team and reminds us of Brady because he's small, blond, and fast. |
I will end here with a verse. I get sent a Bible "verse of the day" to my phone and this was today's.
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all the way acknowledge him, and he shall direct they paths." Proverbs 3:5-6
To what path is he directing you?
Have a Happy Sabbath!
