Today was my last doctor's appointment before the big day. Thankfully this was a much calmer week than last as the baby has been moving around faithfully. On the other hand, I've had a new development. Yesterday, early morning, Calleigh came into my room about 5 am due to claims of a bad dream. She went into a sleeping bag on the floor without another peep but I couldn't get back to sleep...mainly because I started feeling these strange sort of tightening pains. What is this strange phenomenon? Wait a minute! Are these contractions?? I didn't feel a single one (obviously not real ones but not even Braxton Hicks) with Aubree or Brady so this was indeed an unfamiliar feeling. I felt a few more throughout the day, and a few more today but nothing that amounted to any sort of repetition. At any rate, I reported this to the doc but he wasn't concerned and didn't even bother to measure me. He said I looked great and that he's sure this will be a very special baby. I said, "He better be because I had to miss a family vacation to Nova Scotia because of him." And he said, "Oh wow! Nova Scotia. I've always wanted to go there and we just haven't made it yet." I told him that it was too bad because he could have gone with me and then I would have had my own doc along. Shoot! As far as weight, I barely gained a half pound so as of now, I'm at 34 pounds total so baring some major eating binge, it looks like I"ll be pretty much inline with the weight gains of the last two.

The kids had a great time swimming and playing at Grandma and Grandpa's while I was at the doctor. Here Aubs is distracted by the appearance of a butterfly. |

Due to the contractions, which I myself am not concerned about, I thought I should just mention to the kids that there is always the possibility that the baby could come sooner than expected. So last night as I was getting them ready for bed, I told them that I fully expect the baby not to come early but there's a slight chance that he could decide he wanted to come out early whether that be during the day or even in the middle of the night. I thought nothing of this announcement but suddenly Calleigh starts to cry..."No, no I don't want you to be gone. I want you to be here. I don't want you to not be here during the night. I like sleeping with you (which never actually happens)." And so on and so on. It was totally unexpected for her to be upset like this! Maybe Aubree, but not Calleigh. She then goes on to ask me, "So how sure are you that he won't come early?" And I say, "Like 95%." She says, "How about 99%?" Of course, she probably doesn't even know what these percents mean. A few minutes later she asks me again, "So you'll only go to the hospital if you keep having subtractions?" Something like that!
Other than baby/house preparations, there hasn't been too much excitement around here. We've gotten the school room a set up a little more and Calleigh has pestered me several times about starting school. "Can we please start school tomorrow?" she'll ask me. The beauty of it is that I know she likes to learn. She's really taken to watching documentaries. After each animal book we've read, I'll find a documentary to go along with it and although it can be tough to keep Aubree and Brady engaged, Calleigh will watch with complete and utter interest. The other day I had told them that they could watch a program (I was doing something where I needed them to be quiet...can't remember what) and when Aubree and Brady decided to watch a kid's program, Calleigh flipped out because she wanted to watch the rest of a documentary on lightening. She was really ticked off about it so I had to let her go upstairs and watch it up there while the other two stayed down here. And now she's telling me she wants to be a Scientist. Makes a mom happy! The other neat thing was that in the insect documentary we had seen they were showing how some insect (can't remember the details) was helpful with cactus fruit growing and then they showed all these people eating these cactus fruits. Okay, I didn't even know there was such a thing! A few days later, we happened to be at the produce market and Calleigh let's out a yell, "LOOK, it's the cactus fruit!!" Sure enough, there they were. We, of course, bought some, and they loved it. Who knew!

Meanwhile, as far as school, I've been going back and forth on whether to sign up with a school that will keep track of my grades (I would submit them online), keep attendance records, and most importantly, not require me to have a teacher review our work at year end. The school would charge me several hundred dollars and technically, I would no longer be homeschooling and I'd have to give them Calleigh's immunization records, etc. Anyway, this method had its appeal but in the end, I've decided to not do it. Thus, I had to submit a document this week to Orange County School System that stated my intention to homeschool with a start date of September 9. Hopefully I'll be ready to go!
Friday we were out doing yard sales as usual - - we will have to see how this works out once school starts - - when I came across a jackpot. Most of the time I just stick to my pre-planned route which I've programmed into my GPS from Craig's List but every now and then if I happen to see a sign for a sale, I'll make a quick detour. I made one such stop and it looked mainly like junk but I jumped out to take a look. Low and behold! I found the 5-volume set of My Bible Friends for $5...still shrink wrapped. We have it, of course, but I wasn't going to pass up a good deal. I was thinking about giving it to someone for Christmas but I realized the person I had in mind already has the set so I thought, "Let me just go on eBay and see what these things are going for." Wowzers. Needless to say, it was a nice enough price that Duncan quickly listed it and after three days, the bidding is up to $54.57 with four days to go. Not bad for a $5 purchase! So I'm pretty excited. Now I just have to find some more stuff like this at sales.

Not much else here to report. I'm not sure that I'll be doing another blog before the baby is born so if not, talk to you on the other side.

Still loving the pockets. Only wearing one shoe because he got a blister on the other one. We put a band-aid on it and he would keep saying "Oh, my band-aid is sore" instead of saying "My boo boo is sore." |

Yay! Finally got to hang up the lovely blanket made by Alison. |

And also the cross stitch done by Kelly. The girls are about to be hung up too which got me to thinking that it is so sad that three out of four of my kids will have one of these. There is such a nice spot in the new baby room for one too. If you decide to come out of retirement, Kelly....:) |
